To be successful in life, you need to have a growth mindset, but you also have to adopt habits of other successful people.  Success will be different for everyone but there are common habits of successful people that lead to success.

What are common habits of successful people?

Here are some of the most frequent habits of successful people:

  • Reading: Successful people are constantly reading in order to gain new knowledge and understanding of a variety of topics. Reading articles and books related to your field can help you stay current on the latest methods and trends in the industry. Reading about unfamiliar topics can help you learn new information. Additionally, reading about topics that interest you or reading for fun can be relaxing.
  • Exercising: Successful people understand the value of keeping their bodies and mind healthy and strong. Exercise is a terrific way to activate your brain and keep you focused on your daily tasks. Additionally, working out helps strengthen your cognitive functions and can reduce stress and anxiety. Successful people generally go to sleep early and wake up early, so providing your body with routine physical activity can help you get better rest at night. Furthermore, working out can boost your self-confidence, which may allow you to accept challenges and take more risks than you normally would.
  • Promoting positivity: Another habit of successful people is that they surround themselves with positive social interactions daily. Successful people are typically optimistic people themselves and they project that positivity to others. In addition, successful people form and maintain meaningful relationships with family, friends, and individuals in their professional network.
  • Preserving work-life balance: In any role, it is important to sustain a proper work-life balance in order to avoid burnout and remain engaged in your position. Successful people understand the importance of preserving the work-life balance, and will end their workday at a set time and spend the remainder of the day relaxing and enjoying friends and family.
  • Organization: One of the most frequently mentioned habits of those who are successful in life is organization. Such organization includes planning as well as setting priorities and goals. Joel Brown, the founder of Addicted2Success.com, calls for a prioritized “To-Do List” every evening before going to bed to prepare for the next day1. According to X Corp. co-founder Jack Dorsey, who is no longer with the company, Sunday is an important day for organization to prepare for the next day.
  • Relaxation: Relaxing—by meditating or simply avoiding distractions—is another of the most-often mentioned habits of successful people. Of course, relaxation comes more easily to those who are organized, so perhaps for some, it is more of a natural byproduct than a conscious decision.
  • Taking Action: It is important to organize, to plan, and to set priorities, but without action, a plan is nothing more than potential. Successful people act—quickly and often.

Other habits of successful people include:

  • Setting and pursuing goals.
  • Reading books and learning new things.
  • Waking up early and having a morning routine.
  • Being action oriented and results driven.
  • Being people oriented and empathetic.
  • Meditating and practicing self-care.
  • Keeping a journal and reflecting on progress.
  • Being honest and self-disciplined.
  • Challenging yourself and developing a growth mindset.
  • Stepping back from technology and connecting with others.
